Ebola virus is most commonly found in Affrican monkeys, chimpanzees, and various primates. It has also been found in pigs in the Philippines. The Ebola virus spreads from animals to humans and from humans to humans via bodily fluids such as blood and faecal material.
The virus is extremely hazardous because it hampers the immune system’s ability to defend. Thus, exposing the body to various otherwise preventable diseases. If the illness is allowed to develop, it can have further ramifications such as multiple organ failure, severe bleeding, jaundice, and delirium.
Since Ebola is mainly prevalent in the wild regions in Africa, it is best to avoid these areas and refrain from purchasing and consuming wild bush meat. The recovery is slow, and may take months for patients to regain strength and experience weight gain. They may also experience further symptoms during the process such as hair loss, sensory changes, weakness and fatigue.
